Triathlon World Cup this weekend promises to be better than '06

(BEIJING, September 11) -- The 2007 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup will take place this weekend, from September 15-16, 2007, at the Triathlon Venue in Changping. Improvements to the racecourses promise to make a more exciting competition compared with the 2006 World Cup.
Approved by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the State General Administration of Sport, the 2007 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup will be held at the Changping Triathlon Venue in Ming Tombs Reservoir . The elite women's races will take place on September 15, and the elite men's races will take place on September 16. This is the third consecutive year that the Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup will be held at the venue.
The ITU made a number of suggestions for adjustments to the racecourses based on the outcomes of the 2006 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup. The suggestions included adjustment of the swim event course, including the starting point and the lap distance (formerly two laps, now one lap); the addition of a 700-m stretch course along the river bank; and more spectator-friendly views of the athletes in action, etc.
The 2007 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup meets the Olympic-standard 51.5 km distance and includes: a one-lap 1.5 m swim; a six-lap 40 km bike race; and a four-lap 10 km distance run.
