Women's champion: Fierce competition and good venue condition
(Beijing, September 15) The "Good Luck Beijing" BG Triathlon World Cup women's final has just concluded at the Ming Tombs Reservoir in Changping District, Beijing. After the competition Fernandes Vanessa, the Portuguese athlete who had won the championship with 2:00:35, gave an interview to the media.
In the last running event, Fernandes Vanessa, ranking third to fifth places in the previous two events, suddenly came from behind to overtake all the others, and surpassed the runner-up by one minute and six seconds. Seemingly, the Portuguese winner took an easy win, but she herself said today's competition was very fierce.
"The match tired me very much, which should be attributed to continuous races recently. Up to now, I have not met my family for over two months, but my family give me much support. After the match, I should take a long rest," said the Portuguese champion.
Fernandes Vanessa still ranks the world No. 1 and she has won many world championships. However, she is still unsatisfied with her performance. Prior to the match, when she was asked whether she was confident to win the championship in Beijing 2008, Fernandes Vanessa seemed a little unconfident. After achieving the championship in the match, she still keeps a low profile.
To her performance, Fernandes Vanessa said that her performance in bicycling should be better, which could advance her overall performance.
This venue will stage next year's Olympic Games, and has therefore allured a multitude of overseas players for competition. She noted that the venue has sound conditions for competition like climate and various testing, and these enable her to feel the Olympic atmosphere in advance.
"Good place, hard-working staff and enthusiastic volunteers, I believe next year's triathlon will successfully stage here", she added.
