Preview of men's event: An assembly of top athletes

(Beijing, September15) On September 16, the men's final of the "Good Luck Beijing" 1007 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup will be held at the Changping Triathlon Venue at the scenic Ming Tombs Reservoir. The event has attracted many top triathletes, including Javier Gomez of Spain who currently ranks first in the world, Daniel Unger of Germany, the new world champion, and Frederic Belaubre of France, double winner of the World Cup Beijing leg. They will bring a fantastic visual feast of top triathlon competition to the Chinese fans.

Similar to the women's event, the men's event is also divided into three parts. Swimming comes first, in which the athletes will swim for 1.5 kilometers. The second part will be a 40km cycling race, followed by a 10km run. The athlete who finishes all the three competitions first will be the winner. The whole course of the event is 51.5km, which is also the standard distance for the Olympic triathlon competition.

24-year-old Javier Gomez, runner-up at the recent World Championships, is a hot favorite for the title. 27-year-old Frederic Belaubre of France, champion of the last World Cup Beijing leg, is also deemed as a strong competitor for the championship for the outstanding results he has recently achieved. Besides, Daniel Unger of Germany, Simon Whitefield of Canada and Hunter Kemper of the USA are also rather strong, who will all help bring an exciting World Cup to local spectators.

China will dispatch two 20-year-old athletes to this event, namely Zhang Yiming from Hubei Province and Jiang Zhihang from Liaoning. They currently rank 32nd in the World Cup series and 22nd in the World Cup respectively.

The top 15 in the men's event will get a money reward, with 12,500 US dollars for the champion, USD10,000 for the runner-up and USD7,500 for the third place finisher.
